Benidorm has long been a major holiday resort on the Costa Blanca and offers an impressive transport and travel infrastructure, being well connected to much of Europe. Many visitors to Benidorm travel by air, arriving at nearby Alicante Airport (ALC), which is within easy driving distance of Benidorm. A range of ground transport is readily available at the airport.

For those looking for both freedom and independence, renting a car is often the preferred method of transport, being a particularly convenient way to travel and explore the area surrounding Benidorm. Regular buses are plentiful throughout Benidorm, providing an inexpensive way to travel in and around the resort. Many nearby towns and cities can be easily reached by train, with the town's VIA train station offering a range of services and routes.


Alicante Airport (ALC) / Arriving by Air

Alicante Airport (ALC) is the nearest airport to Benidorm and is just 10 km / 6 miles from the city of Alicante, and 60 km / 37 miles from Benidorm. Handling a large number of international and domestic flights, Alicante Airport offers a variety of amenities including ATM machines, bureau de change, a post office, shopping facilities and duty-free shops, food and drink outlets, newsagents, long- and short-term parking, a pharmacy and first-aid facilities.

There is a wide range of car hire companies at the airport including Avis, Atesa, Auriga, Centauro, Europcar, Europa Car, Hertz, Sol-Mar and Record Rent a Car. Taxis are situated outside of the airport's arrivals hall. Bus transport is available at the airport, departing opposite the arrivals hall, and services travel to Benidorm, Alicante bus station and Murica.

Car Rental

Car rental companies in Benidorm are plentiful, and include many well-known international businesses, such as Hertz, Atesa, Alamo, Thrifty, Budget and Europcar. Drivers are required to wear seat belts by law and passengers and children under 12 year of age must use a child seat.

Driving in Benidorm is on the right-hand side of the road and the national speed limit is 90 km per hour / 56 miles per hour, while the speed limit in Benidorm is 50 km per hour / 31 miles per hour.

Buses

Travelling around Benidorm by bus is an inexpensive way to get around. There is a variety of buses that operate in Benidorm and travel to the nearby towns and cities, and other places of interest in the Costa Blanca. Visitors using the bus service regularly may find it useful to purchase a 'Bonobus 20', instead of paying for each individual journey. Bus transport in Benidorm is reliable and there are timetables located at each bus stop. There are also Benidorm sightseeing tours available.

Trains

A narrow-gauge railway service travels between Alicante, Benidorm, Altea, Denia and many other stations. Trains are situated at the Benidorm VIA train station and the journey between Benidorm and Alicante takes approximately one hour. This is a pleasant way to travel and discover new places of interest throughout the area, whilst enjoying the scenic views of this impressive coastline.

An excellent day out can be enjoyed on the Lemon Express, which travels from Benidorm along the stunning coast of Costa Blanca to Gata de Gorgos. On arrival, visitors can enjoy a tour of a guitar factory and watch willow baskets being produced. On the return journey back to Benidorm, passengers are served wine. These trips are extremely popular and it is advisable to book in advance.

Taxis

Travel by taxi is available in Benidorm and fares are fairly reasonable, although prices increase at night. Taxis in Benidorm offer a metered service. There are many taxi ranks throughout Benidorm and taxis are easy to spot, being white with a blue stripe

Boats and Ferries

Benidorm has a number of boat trips running from the marina to nearby destinations along the coastline, including Benidorm Island, Calpe and Altea.
